Plants were as important to our ancestors as it is for us today. However, they had a lot more edible plants then. They also used plants for medicinal purposes.
The plants helped cure illnesses. Some medicinal plants and their benefits:

Aloes – This plant has been used for over 6000 years. The ancient Egyptians regarded it a gift because it symbolize immortality. This plant has antibacterial and antiviral properties. It can therefore reduce inflammation and promote wound healing when applied topically.
Noni-fruit – a home remedy to relieve headache. It is used as an anti-depressant and to boost the immune system. It is also used to control hypertension, lower cholesterol level, and help lower blood sugar level. It is considered to have anti-bacterial properties.
Spanish mint – This is also contains peppermint oil and so can be used to improve irritable bowel syndrome. It can also help improve cold symptoms and improve that airflow and breathing.
Arrowroot – Rich in starch and so can act as a mild laxative in regulating bowel movement and digestion. It is used to treat diarrhea, gastrointestinal problems, celiac disease.
