Four basic operations of arithmetic are addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

### Basic Multiplication

Multiplication of numbers can be thought of **repeated addition**.

*Example*: 2 and 2 and 2 is 6 | 2 + 2 + 2 = 6 | 2 x 3 = 6

Above, the same number is repeated three times. This can be shown as addition or multiplication. Thus we can solve repeated addition problems this way.

### Basic Division

The symbols used for division are *: / ÷*

The **÷** symbol will be used in this exercise.

Division of two natural numbers is the act of calculating the number of times one number is contained within another.

*Example*: there are 2 groups of 2 in the number 8 | 8 ÷ 2 = 4
